New Delivery: Manitou MT X 1840 for Air NZ Hangar 4 Project
AB Equipment is proud to announce the delivery of a Manitou MT X 1840 telehandler to assist with the ambitious Air NZ Hangar 4 project, currently under construction at Auckland Airport.
This new workshop hangar will accommodate large aircraft, including a 777-300 or 787-9, and two narrow-bodied planes such as the A320 or A321.
The hangar will be the largest single-span timber arch structure in the world, featuring an innovative roof designed by Vector Foiltec. The roof incorporates ETFE (ethylene tetrafluoroethylene) cushions filled with air, providing insulation and resistance to wind. The ETFE cladding system is secured using aluminium extrusions, supported by a primary structure, and inflated at low pressure.
To aid with the installation of the ETFE roof, the Manitou MT X 1840 telehandler - equipped with a side-shift fork carriage - has been delivered by our AB Equipment Rental team on a long-term hire. Additionally, a locally designed special installation platform will soon arrive to assist further in the process.
This project exemplifies AB Equipment’s commitment to providing tailored solutions for its clients. Special thanks to our staff members, Poovan Naidoo, Bill Smith, and Skip Edwards for their efforts in making this delivery happen.
The project is expected to be completed by early 2025, showcasing innovative construction techniques and state-of-the-art machinery.
